Job Description

A SaaS company who recently secured £20m investment is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join their team. You’ll be a key member of the data engineering function and will be heavily involved in the design and implementation of a modern cloud data platform in order to deliver data and insights to users.

Our client provides bespoke specialist solutions that enable safe and productive work, efficient operations and data-driven insight to continually improve performance in large, complex organisations across four main sectors – healthcare, pharmaceutical, life sciences and biotech; facilities and building management; retail; and hospitality.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience of data engineering and will be comfortable with the ingestion and underlying data transformations needed for unstructured and structured data and how this can be best designed for the BI needs of users. You’ll be involved in all stages of engineering, from initial design, through to working with engineering teams for delivery in an agile environment.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and implementing performant, secure & robust data pipelines using streaming technologies.
  • Developing advanced conceptual, logical and physical data organisations, models and repositories.
  • Designing and producing dashboards and reports to end users using BI tools such as PowerBI.
  • Planning and executing secure good practice data integration strategies and approaches.
  • Leading a data engineering team adhering to Agile best practice.
  • Owning the on-going technical delivery and improvement of the data platform, building innovative products, using the latest cloud technologies.
  • Proactively anticipating, understanding, troubleshooting, and fixing problems using technical expertise and problem-solving skills to restore service, identify root causes and implement fixes.
  • Mentoring and inspiring junior talent in data engineering best practice.
  • Leveraging information security principles to ensure compliant handling and management of data.
  • The role will involve being in an out of hours on call rotation for emergency cover, which will involve additional payments if required.

Requirements

  • Strong Data Warehousing experience, building operational ETL/ELT data pipelines across a variety of source systems and constructing relational and dimensional data models using cloud DWH technologies.
  • Good knowledge of SQL and Python.
  • Experience using data streaming technologies.
  • Solid understanding of data governance principles including, but not limited to Master Data Management, Data Lineage and Data Security.
  • Understand established data management and reporting technologies and tools, and have strong knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience in Big Data solutions in the data analytics technology landscape.
  • Experience working on a transformational project in Data from the ground up.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to liaise with a variety of stakeholders.
